Roca opens first Asia Gallery

Spanish bathroom manufacturer Roca has opened its first Roca Gallery in Asia, in the Xuhui district of Shanghai, China.

It brings the total number of Roca Galleries to five, with buildings located in the European cities of Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon and London.

The Roca Shanghai Gallery has been designed to show products alongside the company’s philosophy and history, and learning about the brand’s commitment towards people and the environment.

This floor level Gallery has been designed by Francesc Rife Estudio, in a building featuring irregular shapes, and has been created to change its appearance from night to day.

During the day, a number of exhibition modules are placed on the building’s glass fagade, while in the evening, translucent screens unfold to hide the materials of the exhibition and project Rituals to the exterior.

Roca’s brand and communication director, Xavier Torras explained why the company has chosen to site a Gallery in China: “Shanghai is a prime strategic location where business is concerned and offers unlimited possibilities. Since its arrival in 1999, the brand has endeavoured to strengthen its position in the Asian market adapting to its needs and idiosyncracities. Without a doubt, th Roca Shanghai Gallery represents or example of this commitment and aims at becoming a referential meeting point amongst professional of the sector.”

Roca Group offers retailers ‘bricks and clicks’ model

Bathroom manufacturers Roca and Laufen have launched online stores to generate consumer sales for its authorised showroom partners.

These online stores will allow consumers to buy online but the transaction will be with their local showroom. Orders placed on uk.roca.com and uk.laufen.com will be made available to participating retailers for fulfilment, and the ‘click and collect’ service will allow customers to have deliveries to the most convenient location.

With a growth in online shopping and many major retailers, such as John Lewis, attributing sales success to their ‘bricks and clicks’ strategy, Roca believes it will open sales opportunities for retailers.

Managing director of Roca Group UK, Alan Dodds, commented on the launch: “I’m delighted to announce this exciting initative which is designed to drive sales and is based on a true partnership approach. It’s a key element of our showroom support programme and it will open up a host of new business opportunities, both for the Roca and Laufen brands and for our retail partners.”

Roca extends range of steel baths

Extending its offering of super·heavy gauge steel baths, Roca has launched a double·ended option. Lun Plus is available in two sizes including 1700 x 750mm and 1800 x 800mm, supplied with one or two headrests respectively. The bath comes with optional anti-slip and grips are also available.

Hudson Reed has introduced Seven, a one-piece wash basin and pedestal which is shaped, as the name suggests, like the number seven. The basin is manufactured from resin, in a high gloss finish, and is available in white. Seven measures 835mm high x 580mm wide and has a depth of 467mm.

Roca shows eco friendly taps

Roca showed its latest range of eco-friendly taps, the L20 collection at Ecobuild, The collection comprises basin mixers, bidet mixers and bath/shower mixers. L20 features the companys Cold Start system, where the flow of water always starts with cold, meaning hot water systems are only fired up when necessary. In addition, the Eco Click function saves energy and water.

Whirlpool had a number of products, within a RAM Kitchens display, at Ecobuild. This included its Nova American-style side-by-side fridge-freezer and its ADG83101 integrated dishwashen The dishwasher is triple A-rated for energy consumption and incorporates the company’s 6th Sense technology, using 11 litres of water per wash.

Roca tell us about some new products

Sanitaryware with matching furniture was the story of the Roca stand, along with its latest launches from ISH. joining the In-Flow vertical wave tub was the ln-Tank Meridian WC, which incorporates the cistem and comes in wall- hung and back – to – wall versions. It features a three function, dual- flush push button for 3/4.5/6-litre flushing.

One of the busiest stands in the bathroom hall was Showerwall, which was showing the design updates to its waterproof wallpanelling. Adding to the range is 10 colours, bringing the number offinishes to 33 laminates. Reflecting the appeal of marbles, the latest additions include Mocca Marble, Bianco Carrera, Nero Marble and Zamora Marble.

A talking point flanking the outside of the HiB stand at kbbBirmingham, was its Focus and Optical Mirrors. These featured height adjustable and detachable magnifying mirrors, mounted on a felt background which stuck to the main mirror. These latest additions, joined HiB’s latest steam-free mirrors and mirrored cabinets, ceiling and shower lights, as well as ventilation fans with quiet operation.

Croydex used kbbBirmingham to showcase its Coloured Steel Cabinets in purple, lime green, bright blue and fuschia pink. They come fully·assemb|ed with a magnetic push-opening mirror door and coloured steel shelt A range of accessories including shower curtains, bath mats, shower handsets, toilet seats and light  pulls were also available in the same four colours.

Ecobuild takes shape

As we near Spring, the industry show calendar begins to focus on sustainable building, with Ecobuild taking place March 20-22, at the ExCel Centre in London. Ecobuild is an event for sustainable design, construction and the built-environment, which will see over 1,500 exhibitors display their products.

ln addition, there are more than 130 seminars, bathroom taps, live demonstrations and a free conference programme which spans the themes of Design, Architecture and Sustainability; Making Sustainable Construction Happen and Beyond Construction: Achieving a Sustainable Future.

The Conference programme engages in big picture debates, from the role of science and technology through to the psychology of climate change. lt will also focus on more tangible issues of how the UK construction sector needs to change, the role of architects, refurbishing the existing stock and building more houses. And for the first time, RIBA CPD sessions will also be taking place at the show over the three days.

Plus there is a RIBA BITESized auditorium of 15 – minute talks and Q&A sessions and a RIBA village, including bookshop. For designers and architects specifying sustainable  bathrooms or kitchens, there are a variety of exhibitors taking part. Armitage Shanks, Ideal Standard, Roca, Geberit, Thomas Dudley, Moores Furniture Group, Wedi Systems and Twyford Bathrooms will be among the bathrooms exhibitors taking part. And they will be joined by the likes of Zip Heaters, Westag & Getalit, Trianco and CaesarStone representing kitchen manufacturers.

The Aurelius Slipper bath from BC Designs

The Aurelius Slipper bath from BC Designs is a contemporary take on a traditional freestanding tub. Made from Cian solid surface, it has a solid colour throughout, and according to the company, is resistant to scratches and stains. The Aurelius Slipper bath measures 736mm in height, 785mm in width and is 1598mm long.

Shades has launched a range of modular furniture in a choice of four finishes, including its latest high gloss Aspen White. The modular range incorporates basins, wash stations, wall cabinets, mirrors and WC cabinets. It offers a choice of 27 cabinets, 10 washstations and 500mm, 600mm and 900mm modules with flexible cabinet options that can be built up to fill available space.

Haven, part of the Roman group of companies, has added a larger Sliding Door Enclosure to its range. The 1700mm model adds to the existing options ofa 1000, 1100mm and 1200mm wide enclosure. Made from 6mm glass, the Sliding Door Enclosure can be installed in an alcove or with the Haven 6mm thick side panel and is backed by a 10 – year guarantee.

Recently launched into the UK by lnsignia Bathroom Solutions is Poolspa, part of the Roca Group, which provides the flagship Sekret bath. It measures 1800 x 800mm and features 66 LEDs, with a choice of two hydrotherapy systems. Sekret can be specified with back, foot and side whirlpool jets, plus an air system and optional headrest.

Winner of Jump the Gap competition announced

Michal Warykiewicz from Poland has been announced as the winner ofthe 4th edition of the Roca Jump the Gap competition for his ‘In & Out’ shower concept. The award, presented at the recently opened Roca London Gallery, was announced by Ron Arad who headed up the jury of design and architecture personalities.

The jury included Gilda Bojardi, Josep Congost, laview Mariscal, Tomek Rygalik, John Anthony Sars and Marcel Wanders. The winning concept creates an exterior and interior showen built on top ofa circular base with two columns and tixed semicircular glass screens. The shower rotates 180 degrees, transforming bathroom shower mode to garden shower mode.

The exterior option provides a shower in the garden, while the indoor mode ensures privacy through the activation of liquid crystals to make the glass opaque. Warykiewicz’s ’In & Out’ shower concept was chosen as the winning design from a short list of 30 projects, and he received a trophy, as well as £5,000. The competition was launched at 100% Design in 2010 and received 3004 entries from 92 countries.

Plans for the 5th edition of jump the Gap are currently underway, with the official launch planned for September 2012. According to the Roca Group, through lump the Gap, it seeks to transmit a fundamental message of its philosophy: “designing today for tomorrow’s projects”.

Pool Spa by Roca brand now in UK

lnsignia Bathroom Solutions has been appointed as sole distributor of designer bathing and hydrotherapy brand Pool Spa by Roca. Led by Geoffrey Whittaken the new distributor will supply and market the brand from its custom-built production facility and offices in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Pool Spa sales will be supported by a team of eight sales agents, headed by the company’s national sales director Mark Riddell, formerly sales director of Jacuzzi UK.

In addition, an exhibition vehicle has also taken to the road to show the products to over 60 retailers. Insignia Bathroom Solutions has already secured 21 displaying accounts and it expects to reach its target of 50 by the end ofthe yearn National sales director of Insignia Bathroom Solutions Mark Riddell, comments: “The product brand is premium sector which is reflective of the type of retailers we want to partner with. “The heavy investments by the company into sales and marketing initiatives and are proving tremendous assets to ‘getting the product out there’. Having achieved significant display presence within a number of high profile retailers has proven that this brand is one to be watched for the future!”

Sanindusa opens UK office:

Portuguese bathroom manufacturer Sanindusa has now opened a UK office based in Dartford, Kent. The UK office will manage sales and administration in collaboration with a warehouse and logistics operation, with deliveries around the UK.

It will be supported by a dedicated sales team who will be targeting bathroom retailers, upmarket merchants, as well as contractors and developers. Roger Maybury, managing director of Sanindusa UK, said: “I am confident that the launch of this new facility will be recognised by the market as a measure of our determination that the partnerships we build with retailers and developers are for the long term.”
Established in 1993, Sanindusa is based in Porto and manufactures all its products in Portuguese factories. Included in its bathroom portfolio is sanitaryware, hydromassage showers, brassware, furniture and shower enclosures.

Waterline MD resigns:

Managing director of Waterline Michael Lawerence, has resigned from the company due to ill health. His departure was originally scheduled for the spring of 2012, but according to the company: “Waterline’s position as the UK’s premier kitchen distributor with a strong management team and market-leading portfolio of products, has enabled Michael to bring forward his departure.”

The Waterline Group of companies, which includes Coolectric, importers of the Liebherr brand of refrigeration equipment, will continue to be guided by Michael Head and Barry Head from Crown, as group board directors. The company said: “Waterline’s future has never looked brighter with the business ideally placed to take advantage of each and every opportunity available in the market place. We wish Michael Lawerence all the best for the future.”

Roca UK receives £8million funding

Roca Group is set to invest £8million into its UK subiduary for 2011 and beyond, with a scheduled opening of its London Gallery, designed by Zaha Hadid in September.

However, Roca’s UK first priority will be to increase the sale force, with plans to double it in size, creating new jobs. Alan Dodds, managing director of Roca UK, commented: “This is a pivotal moment in the history of Roca UK. To say we are pleased and excited has to be the understatement of the year. “We have always believed in the potential of Roca and this new investment allows us to  properly capitalise on any and all opportunities to expand our business. “We are currently planning our strategy for this additional budget and our first step is people. Further plans will be unveiled in due course – so watch this space!”
