At the seventh annual Which? Awards, Bosch scooped the Best Appliance Brand for a record-breaking fourth time.
It was the third year in a row, consumer watchdog Which? presented the title to Bosch, meaning it has more Best Appliance Brand Awards than any of its competitors.
This accolade follows the presentation of 19 Best Buy Awards for Bosch, over the past 12 months.
Chief executive of Which? Peter Vicaiy-Smith said before presenting the trophy: “That’s more Best Buys than any other appliance brand.”
On being handed the trophy at the ceremony by host and TV anchor Natasha Kaplinsky, chief executive of BSH Group, Michael Steinle said the challenge got bigger each year. He continued, stating the biggest challenge will be standing to accept the prize next year.
In addition, as part of its awards ceremony Which? also named the winners of the Best Retailer and Best Customer Service categories, which were presented to John Lewis and Amazon, respectively. The Which? Local Trader of the Year was presented to The Highgate & Hampstead Heating & Plumbing Co.
Appliance manufacturer Bosch, plus shower and tap manufacturer Methven UK have joined forces to back the UK Water Efficiency Awards. The Awards is a biannual competition, run by Waterwise and the Environment agency, which recognises public, private and third sector organisations in making the UK more water efficient. Businesses in the UK cunrently use about 9.8billion cubic litres of water a day but industry experts suggest they could use up to a third less, saving £10 million each day.
The Awards will recognise businesses that have taken steps to improve their own water efficiency or helped others across four categories: Innovation; Landscape and Gardening Community-led Initiative and Business and Industry Steve Lee, CEO of joint sponsor Methven UK, explained why he is supporting the awards: “The bathroom is one ofthe biggest water wastage areas in the home and so, as a bathroom manufacturer: we recognise the importance of our industry and others, working to educate consumers about the water- saving measures they can take.”

Trade organisation the KBSA (Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association) has welcomed back three previous members. Sink and tap manufacturer Franke, alongside design software supplier ArtiCAD have rejoined the association as corporate members. In addition, award-winning showroom JS Geddes has returned as a retail member.
BSH Customer Service now offers a 24-hour a day, 7-days a week telephone service for its Bosch, Neff and Siemens appliance customers. It already offers a 24-hour online booking service for engineer visits and provides round the clock online retailing for accessories and replacement parts. Now BSH customers can call an advisor to report a fault 24/7 which the company says recognises the importance of home appliances in family life and to get them back in use, as soon as possible.
German bathroom manufacturer Roman Dietsche has become the latest recruit to join the BMA (Bathroom Manufacturers Association). The company manufactures ceramics, baths, brassware, accessories and showers for the domestic and commercial markets. lts UK offices in Tipton, West Midlands, provides technical, sales and after-sales resources for its customer base.
KA Distribution has established a partnership with Kohler to stock its entire range of stainless steel, ceramic and cast iron sinks, as well as its premium tap collection. Held at its warehouse in Preston, Lancashire KA Distribution will support Kohler’s UK kitchen business particularly across the Northern regions. lt joins the existing distribution network which includes The Kitchen Sink Company, Sterling Distribution and Showtime Essential Kitchen Products.

Ken Humphrey, Bosch Home Appliances brand manager, has taken early retirement after 21 years of service. His successor is Rosalinda Buttice who has worked with Humphreys for the past two and a half years. Marketing director for BSH Home Appliances, Rainer Bannwarth commented: “It’s a great shame that Ken is leaving us. He’s done a fantastic job for so many years and has been instrumental in helping the brand to grow and evolve both in terms of volume sales and environmental progress and achieve prestigious accolades such as the Which? Best Large Home Appliance Brand for the second time.”
Marsden takes reins of Nolte UK
Bob Marsden has taken over the position of UK country manager for German kitchen furniture manufacturer Nolte. He will be responsible for developing the companys direct dealer network throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland. Marsden has over 30 years’ experience, with his career spanning roles at De Dietrich and Teka/Kuppersbusch. He commented on his new appointment: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to grow Nolte’s direct Kitchen specialist business in the UK and Ireland alongside our distribution partner Mark David Enterprises. As the ‘direct to dealer’ strategy is a relatively new venture for Nolte, this is a very exciting time for the company in the UK.”
A washer dryer that uses air to dry clothes, rather than water, allowed Bosch to scoop the Environmental Innovation Product Award at the lndustry Awards. The Logixx 7 reduces the average 97-litre water consumption, to wash and dry a 4kg load, to 51 litres. According to Bosch, it saves 24,600 litres of water per year. In addition, the Logixx 7 features a self-cIeaning condenser system, which automatically flushes away lint or fluff, sothe machine is running at maximum efficiency at all times.
An Autodry function uses sensors to monitor the laundry and the washer dryer comes with a large LED display and touch controls. Ros Collins, product manager for Bosch, said: “This is a wonderful achievement as often laundry is not a main focus in the kitchen industry. This is a true reflection of the innovative and environmental features the Logixx 7 brings to a product category that has long been regarded as a ’compromise’.” Over the last 12 months, since its launch in April, the appliance won a Which? Best Buy and House Beautiful Award.

Three of Zanussi’s cooking appliances have been awarded Which? Best Buy status. It includes two freestanding cookers, the ZCV66l MWC and the ZCG56l FW, which also scooped a Which? Great Value grading. Completing the award- winning line-up was the ceramic hob ZVE6004F.
Burbidge has published a brochure for its latest furniture collection, including the in-frame Tetbury, Shaker-style Kemble and curved doors for its handleless Malmo range. A range of chimney extractor hoods have been introduced by Bosch to complementits Avantixx, Classixx and Exxcel collections. The DWAO9E75OB comes stainless steel and glass with halogen lights and a 690m/h extractionrate. The stainless steel DWB09E752B has touch buttons and at 740m/h extraction rate. The 600mm DWAO6E560B comes in stainless steel and glass, and features a 6SOm/h extraction rate.
The Accent kitchen has been launched by lntuo by ewe as part of its 2011 collection. The kitchen comprises of tall lacquered gloss units with full-height storage cupboards. Carcasses are manufactured from melamine and are coated with seven layers of lacquer: available in 4,000 RAL colours. The island features grain-matched walnut doors and all drawers and cupboards feature Blum Dynamic Storage systems as standard.
Hotpoint has launched Luce, a premium buiIt-in range of appliances spanning cooking, cooling and dishwashers. Included in the Luce line-up are single ovens with electronic controls to circulate air, patented direct flame burners for gas hobs, a touch control induction hob and perimeter aspiration hoods. ln addition, there is also a range of compact 450mm appliances, spanning a coffee machine, wine cellan steam oven and microwave.
Cococucine has introduced the Viva range of kitchens from Italian manufacturer Maistri. Viva comprises of 23mm thick door and drawer fronts, available in a choice of six veneers and 13 lacquers as standard, as well as 1,600 RAL colours. ln addition, the range includes doors with a 6mm Corian, glass orreal stone facia and carcasses come in either London Grey or Ecru.
Bosch has introduced the Exxcel 7 VarioPerfect washing machine with an energy rating of A+++. It features sensors to control the amount of water needed for each wash, depending on laundry type and load size. ln addition, the 7kg capacity machine can save time too, as it boasts a programme that washes shirts in 15minutes.
Zip Heaters has added a black chrome finish to its, instant hot water kitchen tap, HydroTap with matching font. The HydroTap provides instant hot water, without needing to boil a kettle, saving energy and time. It also has a sleep-when inactive feature which powers down the unit, after 2-4 hours of non-use, but stores the water above 64°C, so it can recover to boiling temperature quickly.
